It’s official, ULIP’s 2019 Tower to Tower Bike Ride Challenge team set off from the Eiffel Tower on Tuesday 28 May and have started their journey to Blackpool Tower. Read their latest update below.
France to the world famous Blackpool Tower in England. This year we are six riders strong, setting out on the fifth annual ULIP Tower to Tower bike ride in aid of the charity, Mind UK.
Pictured above, from left: Thom Haslam, Luke Sexton, Alex Waites, Jack Adamson and Olly Ainsworth and pictured below, Alice Staniforth. Many thanks to Eric and Abby for going out of their way to meet the team for some professional photographs in front of the Eiffel Tower. This year, the support crew is made up of Hattie Dulake as driver and Steph Heath as social media and first aid. Hattie has taken the lead role of organising the ride, including choosing the cycle route and accommodation. We are very much looking forward to staying with several host families who are associated with current and former students from our university and we cannot express our thanks enough for them opening up their houses to our team.
Our riders have been doing their best to train for this colossal journey whilst also preparing for and sitting examinations. The second year riders, Thom and Alex, took the opportunity to earn money whilst training, using their bikes in their jobs as food deliverers. Jack also reminisced about how he used to ride his bike to and from school as a child and cannot believe the progress he has made from then, to now cycling all the way home from university abroad. Alice and Luke went on some practice rides together outside of Paris, and Olly hasn’t touched his bike since he brought it over from England.
