1. Paris is our campus

Live and study in one of the greatest capital cities in the world, and the top student city for 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. Our central location on the Left Bank’s Esplanade des Invalides in the city’s 7th arrondissement offers a prestigious and quintessentially Parisian setting for your studies, within easy reach of the political and educational centres of the French world.

2. An unparalleled learning experience combining the advantages of a small friendly academic community and a top UK university

Combine the advantages of joining one of the UK’s largest and most prestigious universities with access to the unrivalled expertise of ULIP's academic community and our partner institution Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), one of the top 100 universities in the world.

3. Study and live in Paris with the reassurance of a prestigious University of London degree

Everyone – including potential employers – agrees on the advantages of studying and living abroad. Our students can choose to spend the full duration of their course living and studying in Paris before graduating with a prestigious University of London or Queen Mary University of London degree.

4. Our distinctive degree programmes can be completed more quickly reducing your study costs

While Modern Foreign Language degrees are usually four years long to allow for a study abroad experience, with ULIP you spend a full three years living and studying in Paris, representing a significant reduction in financial outlay for your studies. Many master’s degrees offered outside the UK take two years to complete, whereas our master's degrees can be completed in one year enabling you to gain a prestigious UK advanced degree quickly and with less expenditure.

5. Study abroad with all the advantages of a UK university environment

You will benefit from the same level of academic, pastoral and financial support that you would expect from a leading UK university while living and studying abroad for the duration of your degree.

6. Where better to study French than in France?

Our French Studies students have the opportunity to experience a higher degree of linguistic immersion than their counterparts in other UK universities, both inside and outside of the classroom. Our postgraduate students are able to learn and develop their French language skills while living and studying in the French capital.

7. The majority of our French Studies courses are taught in French and our master’s degrees are taught entirely in English

In the first year, all BA French Studies courses are delivered and examined in French, and students can rapidly upgrade their core language skills and basic knowledge of French history and culture. Depending on option choices in their second and third year, undergraduate students will have 55–90% of their classes delivered in French, which is well above average. Our master’s degrees are taught entirely in English, enabling our graduate students to study in France without French language skills and our non-English speaking students to develop their English language skills.

8. Small and intensively taught classes

Our French Studies degrees have cohorts of 60 or fewer, enabling our students to develop their spoken and written French to a high standard. Our master’s degrees are taught through small group seminars and lectures, designed to create informed discussion and to support a close and friendly working relationship between students and staff.

9. Cultural exchange is an important aspect of student life at ULIP

The development of cultural understanding is an important part of the ULIP experience. You will have the opportunity to participate in organised linguistic and cultural exchanges with your French counterparts at several local institutions.

10. Enhanced career development through curricular and extra-curricular employability training

Career development training and support is provided by both the University of London Careers Group - the largest university careers service in Europe - and the Franco-British Chamber of Commerce. As well as compulsory CV development and interview practice in the language classroom, our French Studies students also have the chance to take their language skills out into the professional environment through internships with employers in the local area.

I have learned about an entirely different culture and I feel much more independent. Studying abroad looks great on your CV and shows you are willing to take chances and that you have confidence.
